Many Types Of Wonderful Jellyfish

Jellyfishes are one of the most common seen inhabitants of seas and oceans. They are one of the most beautiful and attractive sea creatures which man has ever seen. But of course many of them are dangerous to people, because of their ability to sting and inject you with venom. Of course not all of those stings are fatal, depending on the type of the jellyfish they vary from stings that cause no pain to those which will make you feel and extreme pain or even die because of the intoxication. Jellyfishes are also called medusas, but the term “medusa” is mainly used to point the latest cycle of their life.

Jellyfishes are very abstract looking creatures. Most of them not only look fabulous, because of their form, but they also have the ability to color themselves. This happens because of the fluorescent chemicals that they have inside them. They render them to be seen with different colors depending on the situation. For instance some medusas glow to attract attention to them or to show supremacy over a threat. Of course medusas not only repel threats with their glowing ability, but whey they’re touched they inject toxic venom in their attacker or prey. However jellyfishes consist of 90% water and the other part is a jelly substance and this is from where their name comes from.

Jellyfishes vary a lot in size – from the small jellyfishes with body diameter of 1-2cm to the vast sized jellyfish giants which can reach a diameter up to 2-3m and tentacle length of 30-35m. Tiburonia granrojo is one of the biggest jellyfish species known to man. And not only it is big, but it also colored. The Tiburonia granrojo is usually vivid red colored, but depending on the age the red hues may vary. However the Tiburonia granrojo has only a huge body, its tentacles are usually much shorter compared to those of other jellyfish species, but the tentacles are still long enough for capturing prey. The Tiburonia granrojo feeds mainly on plankton and small fishes.

Another beautiful type of the jellyfish class is the Purple striped jellyfish which however can only be spotted along the coastline of California. It has a purple color with dark purple stripes along its body, but those stripes only occur in the latest cycles of their lifetime. But the purple jellyfish isn’t always purple, in the beginning of its life it has a light pink color, but getting older it gradually changes it color to purple and adds dark purple stripes along its body.

And these are only two of the amazing species of jellyfish that can be seen in seas and oceans. However if you aren’t an adventure man you can always go to the city aquarium and witness the amazing beauty and glory of the jellyfish kind. Medusas are the most often seen creature in the oceans and this is because of the fact that they continue multiplying each day of their lifetime.
