The Many Types And Variety Of Jellyfish

The population of most seas and oceans consist mainly of jellyfish. Jellyfishes are truly remarkable creatures which possess amazing beauty and attractiveness. However a lot of those jellyfishes are threat to the health of people because they can sting and inject toxins inside your organism. But not all of the stings caused by jellyfishes possess a mortal threat and different jellyfishes inflict different pain with their stings. The stings can cause severe pain or even death due to the venom. Another term used for jellyfishes is a “medusa”, but it is used for the last cycles of their life-time.

Jellyfishes are very abstract looking creatures. Most of them not only look fabulous, because of their form, but they also have the ability to color themselves. This happens because of the fluorescent chemicals that they have inside them. They render them to be seen with different colors depending on the situation. For instance some medusas glow to attract attention to them or to show supremacy over a threat. Of course medusas not only repel threats with their glowing ability, but whey they’re touched they inject toxic venom in their attacker or prey. However jellyfishes consist of 90% water and the other part is a jelly substance and this is from where their name comes from.

One of the biggest jellyfishes that man has discovered is the Tiburonia granrojo. This type of jellyfish is colored in vivid red. This type of jellyfish differs a lot from the other species which have much clearer body types. The Tiburonia granrojo uses up to 7 arms or tentacles to capture its prey so that it can digest it. However the tentacles of that jellyfish are quite short if we compare them to other jellyfish species. Their main residence is the Pacific Ocean and they usually live from 600 to 1500m depth. However that type of jellyfish is very rare and is protected by the law because of the fact that only twenty three of that kind has been found.

Along the Californian coast line we can find another interesting representative of the jelly fish species and this is the Purple striped jellyfish. The name of that jellyfish comes from its color and decoration. The purple striped jellyfish is usually purple most of is lifetime and gets the dark purple stripes in the latest part of its lifetime. However in its early age the Purple striped jellyfish doesn’t have stripes and its color is dark pink.

It would take us thousands of pages to describe all the amazing jellyfishes which inhabits the Earths oceans and seas, but those two species are enough to give you an idea how beautiful and remarkable creatures jellyfishes. Of course you are not obligated to go to an ocean to see a jellyfish. They are also probably kept captive in your city aquarium so if you are not a man of adventure you can always go to the city aquarium and enjoy the beauty and majesty of the jellyfishes.
